Nose shaping is also defined as rhinoplasty, nose surgery or nose reshaping. It is a surgical procedure which is done to enhance the facial harmony and also to correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects of the nose.

Nose shaping can be opted for changing:

Nose size in relation to facial balance
Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned
Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
Nasal tip which is either enlarged, drooping, upturned or hooked
Nasal asymmetry

Our surgeons at Vimhans PrimaMed perform a number of nose surgeries each year. Our world class team of experienced plastic and cosmetic surgeons is committed to correct the structural defects and to improve the balance of facial features.

Ideal Candidate

A good candidate for nose shaping surgery may:

Have a bump on the bridge of the nose
Have a nose that she or he feels is too small or large in comparison with other facial features
Have a wide nose
Have a bulbous tip
Have a nasal tip that protrudes, droops, or is enlarged
Have nostrils excessively flared or pinched
Have nose that is crooked or off center
Have asymmetrical nose
Have problems breathing due to irregularities with internal nose structure

Rhinoplasty is commonly used to modify the size, shape and overall appearance of the nose. In some cases, your surgeon may recommend a chin implant is inserted at the same time.

Procedure

The surgical procedure mainly includes surgical process and is generally performed with cosmetic or functional goals in mind. The surgery is performed under the impact of local anesthesia. The procedure is performed either using an open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, or a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose.

Through the incisions, the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilages is gently raised, allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose.

A large nose may be reduced by removing bone or cartilage. In some cases, surgery of nose may require the addition of cartilage.

In case the septum is deviated, it can be straightened and projections inside the nose reduced to improve breathing. When the underlying structure of the nose is sculpted to the desired shape, nasal tissue and skin are then redraped and incisions are carefully closed.
