A hair transplant is a procedure in which a cosmetic surgeon moves hair to a bald area of the head. The surgeon commonly moves hair from the back or side of the head to the top or front of the head. Hair transplants generally happen in a medical office under local anesthesia.

Genetics is primarily responsible for the most of baldness (alopecia) cases. Remaining cases of baldness occur due to different factors, including stress, dies, illness, and medications.

There are two types of hair transplant procedures: micro-grafts and slit grafts. Micro-grafts include one or two hairs per graft, depending much on the amount of coverage needed. On the other hand, slit-grafts contain four to ten hairs per graft.

Women with thinning hair
Men with male-pattern (baldness due to genetics) baldness
The ones who have lost some hair from a burn or scalp injury

Procedure

After cleaning the scalp, a surgeon will use a small needle to numb an area of the head with local anesthesia. Next, he or she will use a scalpel to remove a round section of the scalp covered with hair. Then, the scalp is sewed closed.

The surgeon will then separate the removed portion of the scalp into small sections using a sharp surgical knife and magnifying lens. Once implanted, the sections will help you achieving the natural-looking hair growth.

Surgeons will male small holes with a needle or blade in the area of the scalp receiving the hair transplant. They will gently and carefully place hair in the holes. During one treatment session, your surgeon may transplant hundreds or even thousands of hairs.

After the graft, bandages or gauze will cover the scalp for few days. A session of hair transplant may take four or more hours. The stitches will often be removed ten days after the surgery. You may require up to 3 to 4 sessions to get the full head of hair you desire.
